Description
Our Oak Shelves are made from the finest, Joinery Grade (QB2) oak. This means that the timber will have fewer knots, cracks and blemishes than character oak shelves. Our oak is kiln-dried to remove moisture and lessen movement after installation and sourced from trusted, FSC certified suppliers.

Each wooden shelf is handcrafted to order by a member of our carpentry team and is available in a huge range of sizes, support options and colours.
For wider boards, it is important to make sure that the weight is properly supported and the boards are fixed correctly to ensure that they do not bend or twist.
If you have selected a waney edge – the width chosen is the smallest that you will receive. It will be wider and variance depends on the shape/edge of the tree the board was cut from.
Our oak shelves are planed and sanded. Planed to ensure that they are straight and square and remove marks from machinery. Then sanded to remove sharp edges and soften the timber to a greater aesthetic finish.
We do not pre-drill oak shelves as customers will need to ensure that fixings are secured to the wall and are in the correct place. The shelves are not oiled prior to despatch but sent with a small bottle of the colour of choice.

As our Oak Planks are a natural product, each piece may be different in appearance and vary slightly in colour.
As this product is planed it can lose some of its size, please state if you require an exact size.

Oak Shelves FAQ’s
Are your oak shelves joined or one piece?
It depends on the width or the shelves that you have ordered and our stock levels. Generally, we do not stock boards wider than 200mm / 8″. For boards wider than this, we advise that they will be made up of multiple smaller boards that have been joined anyway as this will prevent the boards from moving and twisting, which wide boards are likely to do.
We use biscuit joins to create a seamless, wide shelf.
Will my oak shelf have knots in it?
Yes. However, our kiln dried oak boards, which we use for oak shelves, are supplied from joinery grade oak. They are cut from closer to the base of the tree than character grade oak, and therefore where there are fewer branches. This ensures that there are also fewer knots in the wood than other oak grades.

Great experience buying with Celtic Timber, and reasonable prices too. My custom order was almost exactly cut to specification (within my tolerances). One corner was unfortunately slightly impacted in transit, but this wasn’t significant and the packaging had done its job for the most part. Lastly, there was a hollow area at the centre of a knot on one side. I understand this is to be expected with natural timber but the risk of this happening could have been made clearer, or revealed before shipping. Fortunately I was able to use the reverse side with no issue.
I would use CT again.

Ordered some oak sheets to build a hifi stand. First order had one board that had too many imperfections so I ordered another and that was perfect. Can I suggest that you maybe offer a premium service for defect free oak boards to be used for furniture. It is so difficult to get decent sheets of oak. Overall very impressed with the service.
