What are the Benefits of using Cedar Cladding?

Cedar is our most popular timber for cladding. It is slightly more expensive than larch cladding, so what makes it such a popular choice? Here are some of the reasons why we love cedar cladding and we think you will too:

1. Appearance

Cedar is slightly yellower than larch. It has a beautiful, straight grain and carries hints of red and deep brown tones to provide a unique look. We offer it rough-sawn, planed all round (PAR) or profiled into tongue and groove boards, all of which provide their own style:

2. Durability

Cedar can last for decades without the need to be replaced due to its natural durability. It is naturally resistant to rot and decay. It requires minimal maintenance over its lifespan and will weather a silvery grey if left untreated. Alternatively, you can use a sealant to help preserve its original colour.

Cedar’s durability will save you both money and time in the long run.

3. Stability

Cedar is one of the more stable softwood cladding options available as it is less likely to warp or split than other wood species. It is often used in boating and for saunas because of its ability to endure and survive extreme conditions. This makes it perfect for cladding use as it will withstand all weather conditions.

4. Sustainability

The third and final of our something-lity benefits. Our cedar is sourced from local, FSC-certified forestry. FSC certification ensures that our cedar comes from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits. Cedar is a renewable resource and for every order over £150 placed on our website, we are planting a tree in the Scottish highlands with Trees for Life. As of March 2023, we have planted nearly 15,000 trees (including 10,000 trees planted on our own land).
